Phantasy Star Online 2's original North American release window was for "early 2013" yet here we are at the end of March and there's nary a word. Polygon got in contact with Sega about the matter and found that yes, unfortunately the game has been delayed. Until when is anyone's best guess. With the assorted betas an MMO requires, my best guess is late 2013 at this point. PlayStation 4 launch title?
Here's the exact quotation from the Sega spokesperson:
"Originally slated for an early 2013 launch, Sega can officially confirm that PS02 has been delayed. "We don't have any specifics but will update everyone as soon as there are more details to share."
For those keeping track at home, Phantasy Star Online 2 was released in Japan in July of 2012 for the PC and has since been ported to the PS Vita as well. Despite a healthy following of fans in North America who continue to smuggle themselves onto the Japanese servers every day, apparently the market just isn't right for a full release here just yet.
As Sega says, hopefully we'll hear more on Phantasy Star Online 2 soon, if there are even any more details to share.
