... because why not, 2K Games has announced that one of the best games of 2012, XCOM: Enemy Unknown, for iOS devices including the iPad and iPhone. Lead Designer Jake Solomon has promised that the iOS port will offer an optimized, triple-A experience just like you'd expect on the PC. No news on a release window. Also, during a PAX East panel, the team at Firaxis teased what could be an XCOM: Enemy Unknown expansion project.
The teaser, which is a live feed capture of the panel we've got thanks to Dailymotion, features an anonymous member of The Council speaking about another party pulling the strings behind the war in Enemy Unknown. His feed cuts out before he's able to elaborate on the true nature of the treat, likely implying we won't truly know what's going on until we buy and download the thing.
Considering the rather tepid reception to XCOM: Enemy Unknown's Slingshot DLC, not to mention Firaxis' dedication to large-scale expansions, we have to assume this is a full-on expansion, right? There's always the chance that it's a sequel, rather than an expansion, but with the announcement of the iOS ports I can't imagine Firaxis wouldn't celebrate the occasion to advertise more premium content. Time will tell!
First we have the teaser for the potential XCOM expansion or sequel, followed by a trailer for the iOS release:
