The sly dog, the value of his stock will skyrocket as a result of his resignation.

I'm preemptively being redisappointed for when EA changes absolutely nothing about its business practices.

Maybe Capcom's CEO will follow suit and resign as well.

Does this mean EA will be less shit? I'll search the sky for flying pigs when that happens.
Ye of little faith! EA wasn't shit before 2007. They were damn good.

I was thinking the same thing, I wonder if his resignation was solely for this purpose or not. My guess is yes indeed.

pretty sure they're searching for satan himself as his replacement.
EA may be too evil for even him... XD

So this was the free gift that EA promised to everyone who bought SimCity? Well I'll be damned this is actually a good gift!

now if they would only put their games back on steam, devoid of all this origin crap...

We have built bought out many great franchises that will serve the company well in FY14 and beyond. In particular, I am confident that the investments we have made in games for next-generation consoles will put EA in a strong leadership position for many years ahead.
fix'd

exactly why does the guy need two years worth of salary continuation? im sure hes set for life as it is.

hiigaran That sounds a lot more believable than the actual comment. They don't seem to want to acquire new companies for their talents, but rather to just eat them and feed the horrid cesspool that is EA.

Hopefully with this action, EA will get a little better. I'm not getting my hopes up at all, but stranger things have happened. I also agree with supertom236 that they really should allow Steam to redistribute their games. Origin is an utter mess, and has been since its first implementation. Stop warring with Valve, there's a reason their service works, and a reason a lot of other companies rely on them rather than make their own.
With all of Origin's problems and SimCity, I believe EA just doesn't like fixing problems, they'd just rather leave it a broken mess like it is. Let's get someone in there who actually cares about the gamers, someone who wants their products to be made for quality. I really want something good to come out of this, and would love to once again be able to look at EA as a good company who creates great games we can appreciate and have fun with.

Hey, I didn't say they've always been crap. Their performance for the last few years hasn't exactly bonded well with the gaming community. Maybe the CEOs departure will fix EA up. I am just pessimistic about that.

For all the abuse he's had from people in recent years (myself included) I've got to grudgingly respect him 'falling on his sword' like this. Would have been so easy for him to continue sucking till the blood dried up and forget about failed targets (like so many others in companies the world over).

Unless of course he knows something we don't and all he's doing here is jumping before he was pushed...

We've had unsatisfactory sales. Whats the thing to do? Give 2 years of an overpaid salary to the dude who mismanaged our company into the ground.

i vote for the latter. no man who willingly takes that much money for the amount of work that he does could ever be considered decent.

EA was "shit" yet you bought their games anyway.

Yes, EA was shit, but that does make their games shit too. You can still buy their games without supporting the company. Simply either buy used or wait until after the first couple of weeks have passed, that is the most crucial time for a release and when the "success" of the game is evaluated.
