Microsoft has come out to dispel rumors of Halo 3 finally coming to PC. Sorry to disappoint.
How did the rumor get started, anyway? Well, someone spotted just yesterday an entry for Halo 3 in the latest AMD beta drivers. The original blog post by "k00tcn" did also mention that the entry didn't actually confirm anything:
"Not that this can fully confirm anything, we still have ‘BF1943Game.exe’ that never came out. You heard it here first… probably."
Not surprisingly, rumors were sparked anyway. Microsoft has been quick to stamp these to the ground, however. In response to an inquiry by Eurogamer, the company replied:
"We currently do not have plans to release any Halo titles on Steam, nor do we currently have plans to release a PC version of Halo 3."
Just last month, listings for Halo 2 and Halo 3 were found in the Steam database. Back in 2003, Gearbox Software ported Halo: Combat Evolved to PC.
