EA and Maxis have announced the start of their program to compensate SimCity users effected by the game's server issues during its launch week. Starting today and continuing through the 22, SimCity purchasers should expect an email with instructions on how to redeem their free game. If you haven't received an email, don't fret, they're being sent out in waves. Check EA's handy FAQ for more details if you're worried.
The list of which games will be available to choose from has also been made available. SimCity players will pleased to find that EA isn't holding back here, as the list includes many of their biggest released from the past year. Here's the full list:
As you can see, with titles like Dead Space 3, Battlefield 3 and Mass Effect 3 on the list, Electronic Arts is really trying to make up for their error in the best way they can beyond offering full refunds across the board. Dead Space 3 isn't more than a month and a half old. Considering the value of these games and the fact SimCity's server performance is starting to even out -- not bad.
SimCity is currently available for the PC. The game's launch week was rife with server errors which prevented a larger number of players from accessing their games. In turn, the controversy has led to an internet movement that's extremely critical of the title's multiplayer functionality, which serves in part as always-online DRM, and the game's AI and design as well.
