Skullgirls developer Lab Zero Games has announced that it will give away a free license of its Skullgirls engine to Mane6 for their development of a 2D fighter. However, they will only give it away on the condition that the Skullgirls Indiegogo campaign reaches $725,000.
Mane6 was originally responsible for the development of the fan-made fighter My Little Pony: Fighting is Magic. However, the project was killed when Hasbro refused to allow the developers the right to use the My Little Pony property.
In response, Lauren Faust, the creator of My Little Pony joined the Mane6 development team, agreeing to design a new set of characters and setting for the game. While the characters will change Mane6 has stated that game mechanics will remain the same.
Personally, I’ve never seen My Little Pony, but you know what? That doesn’t really matter. It is great to see members of the community to support the ‘little guy’ in this situation. Here’s hoping that the Mane6 will succeed in putting out a quality game.
As of the writing of this article, the Indiegogo campaign has $441,000 with 10 days remaining.
