More like it didn't fit with EA's vision.

More like EA wanted to beat down on the gaming community only that it backfire gloriously.

How to SimCity:
> Decide to build a new city
> Try to connect to servers
> Fail
> Go on Amazon.com
> Buy SimCity for Snes
> Wait for shipping
> Enjoy

Bradshaw has been on full PR mode since launch. Honestly, I think she's doing a great job, but I think most people have an issue with EA, not Maxis.

Just because it wasn't "their vision" doesn't mean that isn't what the customer wants. If someone wants to play by themselves, they shouldn't need to be forced to be online. Online only single player is the stupidest move any game company can pull.

they also recognized that people refuse to pay for it. and what a coincidence that this all time online function just happens to be useful to make sure people won't pirate the game or do anything with it that's not intended.

as much as i dislike how pirates have slowly turned into disgusting parasites over the years that makes life invent shitty remedies like this the brains at EA are some of the most untrustworthy folks out there. whenever they and their merry henchmen screw up some official spokesmen always seem to cover it up with half patched excuses that seem like they always hide something behind their backs.

simcity can be played offline, EA just didn't want people to *bleep* with it and screwed themselves instead. it's just the nature of the beast to be paranoid. end of discussion!

It's pretty much the same thing now. After Maxis was bought by EA, and after Will Wright left this is what the result is.

C'mon, EA. Is it so hard just to take away the whole online thing? It's like you're being stubborn about throwing away a cursed artifact because it can potentially do some good, but at the moment is only causing misery.

So basically he said " Some people want a single offline city, some want a region that can be played with people online. We could have gave you both and made all our fans happy, but instead we just gave you one. If you don't like it, bad luck"

Great way to a run a company there.

The question left unanswered would be, yes but we could have had both. Hearing from thousands of people that they want multiplayer, and then implementing that, is good, means listening happened. Leaving out the option to be a loner just means you're shifting the feedback to "we want single player" instead of "we want multiplayer". It's a scenario where the cake could have been had and eaten, but was still nailed to the wall as a choice.

I find this hard to believe,
actually if you ignore the connectivity problems (i know ) it makes sense.

with that logic i can say thousands of people enjoy E.T the game but at the same time i wisely keep my mouth shut about everyone else that might not have. it's a dirty move really. the idea is to find things out after the seal has been broken.

this thread reminds me why i should cherish small and independent game companies so much. too much money is bad for people. granted they don't always have the resources to make things it feels good not to have a forked tongue slithering near my ears once in a while.
