Skyrim, Guild Wars composer Jeremy Soule launches Kickstarter campaign to fund classical symphony

Most gamers don't need an introduction to Jeremy Soule. This man composed some of the most iconic game soundtracks in recent history, including themes for The Elder Scrolls, Baldur's Gate, Guild Wars, Warhammer 40K, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, and so on. Really, it's a long, long list. Well, the man has recently begun his own Kickstarter campaign, in an effort to move from game music to the classical genre. 

That's right, Jeremy Soule wants to compose non-game music. On the campaign page, he notes his desire to revitalize classical music, and thanks his supporters in advance for their money and faith in him:

"Kickstarter offers us a wonderful opportunity, and with your help, we can kindle the beginnings of what will be a new way in which to bring life to music in the concert hall and into the lives of others.  I want to thank you in advance, dear friends and supporters, for your kindness, enthusiasm, and belief in what I do.  I look forward to writing this work for you."

The name of his crowdfunded classical symphony will be Symphony No.1, "The Northerner". Here's a preview of the piece, as seen (or heard, rather) on the Kickstarter page.

With another 29 days to go, the Kickstarter campaign has already exceeded its modest $10,000 goal. As of writing, backers have raised nearly $29,000 USD, with a good chunk of patrons going for the $15 mark. Already someone has donated $1,000 for the highest reward tier.

Soule does note that the project is not without risk and asks his fans and backers to please be patient:

"I will be working with the same team that has provided reliable and excellent support throughout my career. Recordings aren't easy to make, but if planning is done within a reasonable time frame, the process can go smoothly. As we have delved into the initial planning stages of the recording session, scheduling for the summer months affords us enough planning time for a recording of this nature."
