Fresh off the decaying heels of Sniper Elite: Nazi Zombie Army comes some news that's a little more fitting for the series. Rebellion and 505 Games have announced Sniper Elite 3 for current and next-gen systems in 2014. Rebellion is once again self-publishing the PC version of the game (just like with Sniper Elite V2), while 505 is handling the console ones.
Sniper Elite 3 once again follows the exploits of OSS sniper Karl Fairburne, but Rebellion wants to expand on everything offered in V2. Rebellion's CEO Jason Kingsely had the following to say about the game:
We're very excited to be working with 505 Games again on a sequel that will build on the highly successful Sniper Elite V2. We've got some great ideas to improve on what we did before and feedback from fans has been invaluable. Sniper Elite V2 was just the beginning of what we want to do with the franchise, there are things we didn't have time to do before that we can really look at featuring this time. We want to focus on making this latest incarnation of Sniper Elite more of a sandbox game but also build on the awesome X-Ray Kill Cam and the atmospheric World War II setting. We're looking forward to seeing what Sniper Elite fans and gamers in general make of the latest chapter in the story.
More sandbox-style sniping action is always a plus, but other details, like the game engine and platforms, are comparatively light. The logo for Sniper Elite 3 does feature a palm tree and the word "Afrika," which heavily suggests the action takes place in, you guessed it, Africa. Both studios should have more details to share with us over the next several months, plus there is always E3 in June.
