Lab Zero Games raises enough funds to pop out another Skullgirls DLC character, Big Band
Something completely different after Squigly
Skullgirls may have been in trouble once upon a time, but through fan support, the game is still going strong. Lab Zero Games' latest efforts -- through crowdfunding site Indiegogo -- have raised enough money to see a second DLC character come to fruition. Meet Big Band, an actual male character joining the Skullgirls roster.
The Skullgirls team had been laid off from Reverge Labs, but Lab Zero Games sprang up soon after, led by the game's developers. Last month, they actually added the new Squigly character as temporarily-free DLC, while promising another if they could raise enough funds for development. How much did Lab Zero need? $375,000. Instead, their fans managed to come up with $380,530 a good 14 days before the crowdfunding campaign is set to end.
Big Band is the first male to join the Skullgirls roster, and worked as a police officer before he was gunned down. Now, he's been rebuilt with cybernetic parts to resemble a saxaphone. Yes, he's a giant cyborg-dude with saxaphone parts.
Lab Zero's Peter Bartholow expressed the studio's gratitude toward their supporters:
"Once again, Lab Zero would like to thank you and everyone else that have contributed to this campaign. We are unbelievably grateful to have such devoted and supportive fans, and can't wait to get this new content into your hands."
Once the Skullgirls Indiegogo campaign hits $400K, Lab Zero will add a new stage and story just for Big Band. At $600K, backers will get to vote on a third playable character.
