Seems Star Wars: Battlefront III isn't completely dead just yet. An unnamed source who was at one point familiar with LucasArts' dealings is claiming that the newly revealed Star Wars: First Assault might be a predecessor to the rumored Battlefront installment. That's a big maybe, but it's better than nothing.
While reporting on the shaky future of Star Wars 1313, Kotaku mentioned a Call of Duty-esque FPS codenamed "Trigger." Turns out, "Trigger" is actually Star Wars: First Assault, a downloadable multiplayer shooter originally set for Spring 2013. The game reportedly supports up to 16 players, split in half between Stormtroopers and rebels. Maps were designed after iconic Star Wars locales like Bespin and Tatooine.
According to the source, First Assault is "step zero" the never-ending journey to see Battlefront III actually made. If First Assault is actually released and does well, then LucasArts might just work on that long-rumored Battlefront. Maybe.
Given that LucasArts is going through some internal uncertainty right now -- enough to endanger Star Wars 1313 -- everything is pretty up in the air.
