I think I should start a Kickstarter project with a goal of something like £1m just for me to do something and post it on YouTube.

harbin Good luck with that.
You say that but you never know how many people would pay to see such a thing. I mean, it only takes everyone in the world to give me £1 before I'm a billionaire... and what is £1 to alot of people?

Surely there is a market for a guy-for-hire. A jack of all trades...

In theory it sounds good, but the GUI, and graphics look extremely outdated. Couldn't they at least use assets from Tabula Rasa? Wasteland 2 isn't "high quality" but it still comes off as pretty good. This? ehhh..not a $1mil game.

I don't think I'll back, as I've never played the Ultima games, but I think this'll get funded no problem just due to nostalgia.

tekmosis I'm pretty sure there are a dozen legal documents preventing Richard Garriott from even mentioning Tabula Rasa haha. It does look rather rough around the edges

harbin For a video? Sure, you might get a few thousand, but you would need the full million to even get any money. And sure, one euro isn't much, but you could buy other things with it.

I can see why they turned to kickstarter, they have good ideas but I can't see a company like EA backing this. " A world where we won't hold the players hand " I know of a large group of people who complained AClll was to hard and they returned it and asked for their money back. This game might be amazing, but to much of a risk for succesful game company's.

Garriott lost the plot years ago and I have no faith in his ability to create an RPG/MMO that can compete in today's market. A proper sequel to UO is needed with a complete graphics revamp. EA should never have ditched the UX:O project years ago to focus on the original which was already dated then.

Nothing will come close to UO anyway because half the magic with UO was that the genre itself was a new concept and it was unlike anything else people had played. These days everyone's familiar with your typical cookie-cutter MMOs like WoW and their features have become what everyone expects from a game in that genre to be marketable and popular. This game will attract a small niche audience at best. The mainstream will continue to play WoW/GW2 and the UO fans who are trying to recapture their memories of the game will be playing on UO freeshards with classic rulesets.

I think your missing the point... He's not making the game to compete in the market lol. People who liked uo aren't really the type that liked wow... And that's why this game is bÉing made for a small niche audience that would rather play something else.

Rooster Teeth did a really interesting podcast with Richard Garriott talking all about the game, Ultima and Garriott's overall influence on RPG.
