Reports are claiming that BioWare San Francisco has closed, resulting in 25 to 30 employees losing their jobs. As of now, we don't have any confirmation from EA, but the news supposedly comes from a source within the company.
BioWare San Francisco, formerly known as EA2D, was responsible for quite a few of EA's casual games, including spin-off titles Dragon Age: Legends, Dragon Age: Journey, and Mirror's Edge 2D.
The studio had been responsible for mobile and social games development well before it was brought under the BioWare label in August 2011. However, the source claimed publisher EA felt mobile development up in Redwood Shores, CA, was simply "too expensive."
Incidentally, BioWare's Wikipedia entry states that BioWare San Francisco closed its doors in February 2013. Now that's a little confusing. We've reached out to EA for comment and, with luck, clarification.
