The biggest question at the back of each fans' mind at the end of Gears of War 3 will finally be answered. Just what were Cole and Baird up to before they met up with Marcus Fenix in the final battle? Luckily, People Can Fly and Epic Games are looking out for us. In Gears of War: Judgment there will be an unlockable campaign titled 'Aftermath' which lets players revisit the events of Gears of War 3 as the dastardly duo, Cole and Baird.
Aftermath won't be immediately available in Gears of War: Judgment. Instead, players will have to unlock it through completion and impressive style and score, which will earn players 'stars'. Level designer Jim Brown offered the following description of the extra campaign:
"We wanted to do something that added context to the game, so you had that beginning part, but then this ties everything together with the main trilogy as well. So you'll see when you go in there some people you recognize, some places, maybe even some enemies and then see how the two storylines weave together in the context of the whole franchise."
Despite the snark, I definitely do recall wondering what the two popular characters were up to towards the end of Gears of War 3. In fact, I thought it was so silly that part of the game was missing I would have bet Epic Games was working on DLC to fill us in. Instead of DLC, however, we get an entirely new game to build into the side-story. Makes you wonder how production actually started on Judgment.
Gears of War: Judgment is an Xbox 360 exclusive scheduled for release on March 19, 2013. Check out the trailer below, which is oddly only available as a leak through various Youtube accounts. We'll update it with the official release when it becomes available.
