Nordic Games and The Farm 51 have announced their next title after partnering for Painkiller Hell & Damnation. Introducing Deadfall Adventures, an FPS, err, adventure with puzzle-solving and exploration. The protagonist, aptly named James Lee Quatermain (rather like a Confederate general) is hired to escort a US agent to an Egyptian tomb in order to acquire an ancient artifact -- the Heart of Atlantis. Of course, things spiral out of control from there.
Wojciech Pazdur, Development Director at The Farm 51, contributed this thought on a bit of the inspiration behind Deadfall Adventures:
"We’re putting everything into the games’ stunning graphics to create a unique experience that will be both challenging and engaging. The great thing about Deadfall Adventures, it makes us discover the little Indiana Jones in all of us."
It sounds rather like a mixture of Indiana Jones, The Mummy, Uncharted and Serious Sam -- with plenty of that unique Painkiller personality. While the "ethos of a summer blockbuster" certainly sounds good on paper, it's that association between visual, cinematic quality and these grand archeological adventures that people really love. Not to mention, who doesn't love visceral first-person intensity.
Deadfall Adventures is being built on Unreal Engine 3 for release on PC and and Xbox 360, to be released on June 30. Hell of a turn around, guys! Can't wait to see more of what The Farm 51 and Nordic Games come up with. Going from Painkiller to a summer blockbuster has to be a big step.
