PlayStation 4's user interface screenshots up close and personal
High quality shots of the UI from the PlayStation 4 event
While the content forthwith isn't new, perhaps folk didn't get a close enough look at it during the PlayStation Meeting 2013. Here be screenshots (sorry, can't drop this pirate accent) of the PlayStation 4's user interface, high quality captures of the footage shown during the event's PowerPoint presentation. The six shots show off a few subsections of the interface that fans would likely want to know more about. It would be better in motion, but it's better than nothing
Let's go through each of the key shots and go through some of the important details found therein:
- The "Front" panel holds icons that likely lead to profiles for a number of games, movies, web browser and more. Currently hovering over the icon for Knack, a description pops up showing a bit of information like "Most Viewed Video", recent events from your playthrough and social events. The header that likely sticks around no matter which panel you're on includes your profile picture, a clock, a shop link, and social stuff including room for messages like "Game invitation has arrived".
- Henry Bayle's profile includes all the expected content. A profile image and links to send a chat message or audio message, all of the user's trophy information, their current game, along with social details like what videos they've shared. It's almost like a Facebook feed that's a bit cluttered.
- The "News Feed" is a bit much to take in. It appears to be a collage of recent social news taken from all of your friends, so videos, screenshots or updates that your friends have shared, comments on your own media, and details like who is playing what game currently.
- Three "Share" screenshots that show what it might look like to share an in-game screenshot, video, or start a livestream. This also includes their timeline editing function, which allows the user to view their gameplay from a span of time and select images or video segments for sharing. The livestream screenshot shows off a chat room and the ability to add your camera-feed to your stream. Also, an odd "Buy" button on the stream page. What's that about?
There are 6 main screenshots, as detailed above, but there are also three more that show off that most of the user interface of the PlayStation 4 can be accessed via mobile phone or tablet. As such, you can watch your friend's livestream on your iPhone and then check out their profile and add them to your friends list.
While I won't go so far as saying the UI looks bad, it doesn't look like something very simple to use. What I'm trying to say is that these screenshots look highly conceptual, as opposed to something that would actually be used on a console. I wouldn't be surprised if they're 100% mockups, as opposed to anything actually.
Check the screenshots out, and make sure to read up on what we know about the PlayStation 4, including the new controller and PlayStation Eye, if you haven't already.
