Ubisoft might not have the best track record when it comes to their PC titles, but it looks like their new IP Watch Dogs is being developed around it.
Ubi CEO Yves Guillemot made this revelation in a recent interview (hope you're literate in Dutch). In fact, PC is the lead platform for Watch Dogs, and other versions will be ports. Why? Well, apparently, porting from PC to PlayStation 4 is going to be a whole lost easier than it was with PlayStation 3. In the end, it's really about cost and efficiency.
“We expect fewer problems with porting games to the PS4 than the PS3, which had a completely different infrastructure. Previously, we developed games first on the Xbox 360 and then translated them onto the PS3. It took a lot of time and money to port.”
Watch Dogs was originally announced as a current-gen title at least year's E3. The game will still be released to Xbox 360 and PS3, but at last week's PlayStation 4 Meeting, Ubisoft announced plans to bring their new IP to PlayStation 4 as well.
Just yesterday, we learned that the game was built around an entirely new engine, and not just recycling Assassin's Creed tech. This game really is sounding better and better as we learn more about it.
