All future EA games will include microtransactions, if EA's Blake Jorgensen is correct
Because consumers are "embracing" this business model
Microtransactions have been gradually seeping into EA's non-mobile games of late, from BioWare's Mass Effect 3 to Visceral's Dead Space 3. Now imagine if this component appeared in every future EA game. If the publisher's CFO Blake Jorgensen knows what he's talking about, then that could very well happen.
Morgan Stanley Technology, Media, and Telecom Conference, Jorgensen spoke on behalf of EA and expressed the company's interest in pursuing this business model. Apparently, gamers have shown they are more than willing to fork over money for optional content, and EA plans isn't about to let this opportunity pass.
"The next and much bigger piece [of the business] is microtransactions within games.
"We're building into all of our games the ability to pay for things along the way, either to get to a higher level to buy a new character, to buy a truck, a gun, whatever it might be, and consumers are enjoying and embracing that way of the business."
The future of gaming! Well, if the microtransactions stay optional, then maybe EA can go through with this and avoid upsetting their consumer base. After all, both aforementioned titles could be easily enjoyed without spending the extra money (something I can attest to). Still, this is a pretty slippery slope EA is trying to climb, and I'm not so sure I like what's waiting at the top.
Regarding security issues, Jorgensen noted that EA has "built an amazing backend to manage" all that. In the past, this sort of thing has always been outsourced, but now the publisher is bringing this business in-house.

Please, Please,PLEASE go bankrupt you greedy pieces of shit.
the idea is to make it more easy for game reviewers, the let's play folks and other folks in the social media to get the content, weps, characters, cars, mods, etc, they need to make their films with. with the introduction of the level up system it made things a little more complicated.
of course the content is also available to us but the way it looks now i say it's hardly worth fretting about.
30$ for a used GameBoy and 10$ for an old game. Hell, 200$ for a 3DSXL and 40$ for a game still sounds better.
G'bye PlayStation, you've been mediocre good to me, but it's time to say goodbye.
About time major games companies started actually listening to what gamers want instead of trying to continously fleece them.
I don't want to be obligated to pay 0.99 - 9.99 for a game I already paid full price for. That's just corporate greed to the maximum degree.
Please go away EA.
Yeah, neither can I.
In other news, all future EA games will have (at least) one less purchase. See ya EA, not nice knowing you.
micro transactions They replaced cheat codes with a buy option.Greedy
bastards and how long be for you will have to pay micro transactions for key items /weapons to pass a level or kill a boss or what ever and I don't mean because you can't be bothered to urn them I mean because they ripped items you need from the game like DLCs and make you pay and they wonder why people pirate their sh*t you rip us all off why shouldn't people do the same god I hope EA burns
Always Online DRM only hurts legit users
day 1 & other DLCs that have just been clearly ripped from the game just to rip us off
on disc DLCs proves its been ripped from the game to rip us off
4 hour single player campaigns pure lazy and greedy
