Key members behind Zynga Inc.'s shuttered Boston branch of operations have revealed their intentions to start a new studio, christened Proletariat Inc. Officially open for business today, Proletariat was formed by five senior members of Zynga Boston and will focus on developing games for Apple's iOS platform. Proletariat's first title will be Letter Rush, an arcade take on word-find gaming due to launch next week on iPhone and iPad.
Probably not the first sort of title you might have expected from industry veterans who have had a hand in games ranging from Guitar Hero to Lord of the Rings Online but Proletariat's founders have also dabbled in social gaming as Zynga Boston, where they produced Indiana Jones Adventure World which first launched on Facebook in September 2011.
Zynga's cost-cutting crusade, which this week claimed four more development studios in Austin, McKinney, Baltimore and New York City, saw the company pulling the plug on its Boston branch back in October 2012. Zynga Boston was comprised of talent from Conduit Labs and Floodgate Entertainment. Indiana Jones Adventure World would also be shut down by the end of 2012.
