It was in November of last year we heard Beyond Good & Evil 2 was, for the time being, placed on the backburner in favor of Rayman Legends development. Since we know know Rayman Legends is basically done, the question seems appropriate again: What's the status on Beyond Good & Evil 2? Which is exactly what Kotaku asked Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot after Sony's PlayStation Event where the PS4 was announced.
Naturally, Guillemot was less than receptive to the question:
"I don't give comments anymore on BG&E2, because I think ... the next time next time we communicate we have to have something new."
He added later, "It's coming." Though of course I should make clear the source is Kotaku and quotations from Kotaku should always be taken with a grain of salt. It's difficult to ascertain the nature and context of Guillemot's response. "It's coming," may refer to news as to Beyond Good & Evil 2's development in general, the next time there will be an opportunity to communicate with Guillemot -- heck, he could have been pointing at a taxi driving up.
We do know, however, that development was said to be held up by the business of Michel Ancel working on Rayman Legends. As Rayman Legends wraps up development, the questions will become whether he moves on to Beyond Good and Evil 2 or another Rayman game. Or whether he leaves Ubisoft, but that's another story.
While it may feel like Beyond Good & Evil 2 is as far away as ever, but the big decisions related to the game's development may be happening right now. Ubisoft, please don't leave us hanging.
