Never understood the appeal of this series. I've tried it multiple times but end up playing for twenty minutes tops and then never touching it again. Is there a story or a final boss, is there a reason for all the hunting you're doing or is it all for some piece of loot?

The point is to go out hunt, kill monsters to make badass gear. There's no real story to it, no end boss.

The biggest draw to the series is the multiplayer. You fight alongside other hunters with the objective to kill the target monster[s]. No matter how decked out you are, you're still at a disadvantage to the monsters you fight (at least the 4 star difficulty) thereby forcing you to think a little. Online though, the monsters are far more powerful to compensate for the increase in the number of hunters.

Bottom-line though, if you like to be told a story, monster hunter just isn't for you. I'd look into Nino Kuni for that (most of the beginning is cut-scenes; still looks like a good game though)

There are final bosses in monster hunter tri and in MH3U. In monster hunter tri, it was the Alatreon, and while it makes a comeback in MH3U - with a new set of attacks - it's not the final boss. Do you plan to get this game? o:

I would like to. I actually haven't played a MH before, so I'll be grabbing the Wii U demo tonight to see what its's like.

Slayed both demo monsters with the Dual Swords - felt nice to Demonize again - and one with the Bow. Definitely excited for this new addition to the Monster Hunter franchise, although the mechanics are a bit difficult for the 3DS, especially the underwater. Monster targeting is nice, though. Probably gonna snag this for the Wii U, though.

Glad to see the demos are finally out, I've been wanting to see how the game works out on the 3DS.

kuje I guess you could say the appeal is the same as old school games like Ghosts n' Goblins or the Souls series, that challenging, blood-pressure raising yet oh so satisfying gameplay.

The huge amount of loot and crafting along with the multiplayer gives the games a lot of longevity, but the story isn't much more than the back story and typical side-quest plots. If your really into games like Phantasy Star or Diablo you'll probably like it otherwise probably not.

Downloaded the 3DS demo earlier. Looks really good. Sadly, I was killed by the creature I was looking for.

I need more practice. XD
