This is the great thing about independent developers. Today, the Almost Human team that developed Legend of Grimrock had a meeting to discuss the progress being made on the game's planned DLC/expansion just hours ago. They walked out of that meeting agreed that instead, they would make Legend of Grimrock II. The same day, we have an official announcement posted on their website. Real.
How refreshing for a studio to be so directly open and honest about the games they are making and their plans going forward. Other studios, please refer to Almost Human for tips. The way they've announced Legend of Grimrock II will only improve the game's reputation and likely lead to more sales.
"Creating a mere DLC or expansion to Grimrock simply would not have felt right. As today’s meeting proved, we still have a lot of ideas we’d like to explore, lots and lots of new content already done (originally made for a DLC/expansion) and a big engine update in the works. Simply put, a DLC would have limited too much what we can do. With a full blown sequel we can raise Grimrock to the next level."
Considering the decision to turn their DLC expansion for Grimrock into a sequel just today, we can likely assume the title has a ways to go before we get an official release date. That said, I bet Almost Human will be more than up front about it when they get closer to the end of development. Not to mention, share that conversation with us in the weeks and months to come.
Legend of Grimrock II has been officially announced for PC, the beautiful dungeon crawler that was self-financed by a team of four independent developers. They brought it to us as soon as they could, and so it's a day to celebrate for both fans and developers. What an amazing shared experience.
