One of the many questions gamers were pondering going into tonight's PlayStation Meeting 2013 event was whether a Gran Turismo or MotorStorm racing game would be announced. Imagine our surprise when we found that the developers of MotorStorm would be developing a Gran Turismo-style racing game. DriveClub will be a PlayStation 4 exclusive based on team racing (yes, team racing) and highly realistic and detailed graphics.
Evolution Studios described DriveClub as the title they've been wanting to develop more than any other. In fact, they mentioned having patented the name over nine years ago (it's true). Since, the team has "borderline insane" adding an indescribable amount of detail to every car and track. It shows, too, as DriveClub was hands down one of, if not the most visually impressive announcement of the event.
To add some quirk to the matter, at a roundtable after the event Evolution Studios confirmed that the new PlayStation 4 controller, the DualShock 4, could be used as a steering wheel via motion control. The developers believed this would end up being the preferred method of driving in DriveClub. Add this to their immersive first-person driving mode, which other games call cockpit mode, and Evolution is pushing one hell of an immersive driving experience.
DriveClub currently doesn't have a release date, but since it's a PlayStation 4 exclusive we expect it to be aimed for either the console's launch or the following launch period. Look forward to more information as we approach and get into E3 later this year.
