Indie savant Jonathan Blow has yet again signed an early exclusivity agreement for one of his games. The Witness will be a PlayStation 4 exclusive initially revealed Blow at the PlayStation Meeting 2013 event. Blow's previous game, Braid, found critical success as an initially exclusive indie game on the Xbox 360. Can hardly blame the guy for finding a way to develop exactly the sort of game he wants to make.
Not only that, Jonathan Blow gave a reasonably in-depth look at the game, briefly discussing the title's design and purpose on top of what The Witness even is to start with. The Witness is an open world first person puzzle game. Except, where most open world games are beautiful in their expansiveness, The Witness is making efforts to compact all of its content into only as much space as needed. On this island, every single thing has a purpose and a place. It's your job to find out what.
The Witness is inherently a puzzle game, though exactly what sort of puzzles the game will be filled with is unclear. Needless to say, you can look at any given screenshot for the game and see half a dozen curiosities worth taking a look at. Imagine a whole island like that. Expect The Witness this holiday season, exclusively for the PlayStation 4, and then maybe down the road coming to PC and iOS devices too.
