Rumor: Kinect 2.0 specs for Xbox Durango leaked, supposedly with better resolution and lag reduction
Also might have better field of view for larger spaces
We've already heard rumors that the next Xbox, dubbed "Durango," will include a built-in Kinect. Granted, this hasn't been confirmed or denied, but let's move on to more Kinect rumors. Specs for the Kinect 2.0 have supposedly been leaked, and while none of the information is particularly groundbreaking, it shows improvements to functionality being implemented across the board.
The next-gen Kinect might be seeing improved resolution in both color and depth cameras, plus a third sensor that lets the Kinect device see infra-red spectrum. All this means the device should operate better in low-light settings, something that the first Kinect sometimes struggles with.
The camera could see an upgrade from 640x480 RGB to 1080p, with depth resolution jumping from 320x240 to 512x424. The amount of depth measured remains the same, but a wider field of view should accommodate a larger play area, maybe even work around objects like furniture.
Here's a breakdown of some of the anticipated features, from the leaked document. Do remember to take all this with a grain of salt.
| Feature | Xbox 360 Kinect Sensor | Durango Sensor |
| Field of View (FOV) | 57.5˚ horizontal by 43.5˚ vertical | 70˚ horizontal by 60˚ vertical |
| Resolvable Depth | 0.8 m -> 4.0 m | 0.8 m -> 4.0 m |

| Depth Stream | 320 x 240 16 bpp, 13-bit depth | 512 x 424 x 16 bpp, 13-bit depth |
| Infrared (IR) Stream | No IR stream | 512 x 424, 11-bit dynamic range |
| Registration | Color <-> depth | Color <-> depth and active IR |

Another highlight Xbox users might take note of is Durango's (rumored) enhanced skeletal tracking system. The document reports a number of new or improved features:

It's fun for parties with games like Kinect Sports and other things, and I'm sure the workout/dance games are good too. I, personally, am not looking for anything more with mine.
All I've heard from Microsoft is a renewed focus on Kinect after Kinect sold 26 million units. Personally I don't care about Kinect and I don't know any core gamer that grew up with PlayStation and the like that care about it either. It concerns me as well that in the Xbox 360 era 70% of their first party studios make Kinect games the other 30% make Halo, Fable and Forza and that's it. If Xbox 720 focuses on Kinect and other gimmicks to sell units I fear for Microsoft's future in the industry I really do.
