This kind of stuff still seems surreal to me. I didn't expect graphics to actually get that much better...

A Person I hope, I hope, I hope that they actually release a game that looks this good sometime in the next five years.

While I am amazed at the graphics UE4 is providing, it does make me worry. Won't these significant graphic upgrades just drive the price of developing higher? HD game development is already pretty expensive from what I know.

XXIV, yeah, but they'll round things out by charging more at retail. It's a shitty, shitty cycle for consumers, but it keeps things progressing.

XXIV A Person The exta costs come in the form of training your team on the new engine. Which is why you'll usually see Epic making the first few games (vested interest in showing the engine's power off), along with a few other experimental or startup studios trying to surprise people.

In a few years it'll just be "the engine" because everyone will be as used to it as the old one.

Err, well that might not be the case with Unreal Engine 4 though... because even the "next gen" consoles likely won't be powerful enough to run it completely. So... I dunno. The next five years will be interesting.

the way current gen has and is going
day 1 & other DLCs that have just been clearly ripped from the game just to rip us off on disc DLCs proves its been ripped from the game to rip us off
4 hour single player campaigns pure lazy and greedy
sending out a game that has so many bugs that you need a bug spray the size of a gas truck to fix them
games that clearly need up to 6 moths more in development pure lazy and greedy

I predict with graphic like that we will see even more rip off DLCs 3/5 hour max single player campaigns if we are lucky unless it a rpg and new games costing from £55/60 to £75/85 for the Pre-order game & day 1 DLCs ripped from the game it a shame an saddens me what gaming has become

Ah, thanks for clearing that up bluexy. I still wish they could just stay at the levels we have now. The current graphics are perfectly alright with me; they have realism, but not so much that I don't feel like I'm playing a game anymore.

I'm not sure, but is this a graphics engine or physics engine?

SkX Technically a "game engine" so it's an all in one package.

bluexy , it'd be interesting what Havok has to offer at this point. How long and often was it used until now?

SdK Hahah, Havok's what... been around for at least a decade. Probably used more now than ever. Not top tier games, but... Skylanders type stuff. I remember Medal of Honor: Warfighter used it. xD
