Japanese PlayStation Vita event highlights over half a dozen upcoming games, price drop
It's not Nintendo Direct, that's for sure
A surprise PlayStation livestream aired last night focused on the PlayStation Vita, perhaps confirming that Wednesday's "PlayStation Meeting 2013" will be console focused. The Nintendo Direct-style event, while not translated for global audiences, showed off a promising future for the Vita. Its all starts with a price drop to around $215, converted from yen, and ends with release information for more than a half dozen great looking games.
Yes, both the 3G and WiFi models of the PlayStation Vita are receiving a price drop to 19,980 yen, which could comparably be a drop to around $200 for western audiences. Of course, there's been no price drop announcement for western audiences yet, but perhaps that will come up at Wednesday's big event. In Japan, the price drop will coincide wit the release of the free-to-play MMO Phantasy Star Online 2.
Speaking of Phantasy Star Online 2, here are all the games shown off during the Vita event -- minus one or two I might have missed due to translation issues:
- Phantasy Star Online 2 & Bundle - New and popular free-to-play MMO will be bundled with the price-dropped Vita starting February 28.
- Toukiden - Trailer - Tecmo Koei's take on the Monster Hunter-style action title.
- Soul Sacrifice & Bundle - Trailer - Sony Japan Studio's take on the Monster Hunter-style action title.
- Valhalla Knights 3
- Senran Kagura: Shinovi Versus - Trailer - A sort of school girl Dynasty Warriors-style action game. For perverts.
- The Legend of Heroes: Sen no Kiseki - Trailer
- Gundam Breaker - It's a Gundam game, and it's for Vita!
- God Eater 2 - Trailer - Namco Bandai's take on the Monster Hunter action title.
- Dragon's Crown - Trailer - 2D fantasy beat-em-up from Atlus is officially coming to Vita, with all of its brilliantly hand-drawn art.
- Final Fantasy X HD - Screenshot - Making a surprise appearance, Final Fantasy X HD is still not done or in a state to be fully shown. All that was seen during the event were some battle animations for Tidus and Yuna.
I don't believe any of these games are new announcements, but I do think a number of them received release dates or release windows which previously hadn't been announced. As I can't translate, I'm not sure of the specific date. Many of them are coming in March and April, however. Since for now they're all Japanese releases I don't think it's too big of a deal, especially when North American release dates might be coming soon.
A pretty solid event for PlayStation, in all honesty. The trailers for all these games look very solid, and you really can't go wrong with a price drop and a couple new bundles. Hopefully North America gets some of that wonderful Vita action sometime soon.
Feel free to watch the entire event, along with details and highlights over at the event's website.
