Bungie's big reveal for Destiny reveals little, vi-doc trailer promises an ambitious multiplayer FPS
Update A little less than expected, but enough to get excited about
The embargo for Destiny has been lifted and the first details for Bungie's next FPS multiplayer game have been unveiled. While Neoseeker wasn't invited to the press event, we're picking out as many details from preview coverage and official Bungie information as we can. What is Destiny? Well, that's still sort of unclear. It's an FPS, it has multiplayer focus, and it's an ambitious sort of scaled MMO experience that's unlike anything currently available on consoles.
In describing Destiny, Bungie skirts around MMO language like "dungeons," "raids" (6-players) and crews or squads. A lot of early art shown, including some of the brief gameplay footage from the below vi-doc, focuses on huge cityscapes, but whether those are represented as instanced hubs or true MMO cities is another matter. These cities were referenced as "social hubs" where you'll view your character in third person. Emotes will be available, and likely a heavy amount of customization. Everything was referenced in a cooperative fashion -- no mention of competitive multiplayer at this point, but there's no doubt the final product will have robust competitive multiplayer.
Lore is a bit more complicated. Humanity has been attacked, with the last vestiges of civilization surviving due to the efforts of this giant orb-like planet called "The Traveler." This last city has since rebuilt under the shadow of The Traveler and begun returning to space -- the moon, Venus, Mars and "all that is lost." Of course, they've also discovered new enemies. Some bad-ass looking enemies at that. Humanity has it's recourse, pulling technology from The Traveler to build new heavy duty weapons that in some cases is borderline magic.
As already confirmed, Destiny will be coming to Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 initially. Rumor is an October release date, but word coming out of the press event is 2014 and Q2 at that. Basically, a lot wasn't confirmed. What we know is Bungie's making a super ambitious FPS multiplayer game with a lot of MMO inspiration, a sci-fi/fantasy focused on personal stories, always online but as much like Journey as an MMO. Also, all sorts of connectivity between browsers and mobile apps.
Lots of questions remain, but... well, this is Destiny. Or at least what Destiny will be. It looks good... we think?

There's a possibility I'd try it for PS3 if it received good feedback, but it's unlikely. They are missing out on a pretty large market excluding PC, home of the MMO genre =/
We do know, however, that they are heavily pushing the idea of "personal story". What I believe is being conveyed by this is sort of how the original Guild Wars was designed. Where sure, the hub worlds and cities were "multiplayer" but a majority of the content was entirely playable alone.
Of course, the way they mention "drop-in co-op" where you can be doing a mission and some random dude can then join who is in the same part of the mission your are might change that.
