Best Buy's listing for the upcoming Naughty Dog adventure Last of Us has had its release date bumped six weeks back, from May 7 to June 18. This includes sending an email update to everyone who has preordered the game, informing them of the delay. GameStop's listing also changed briefly to the new date, but has since shifted back. Other retailers have yet to adjust, including Amazon.
While we have to insist that the delay is entirely rumor at this point, retailers don't just do this (there's lots of money involved). Perhaps if it was only one retailer and it was simply an online listing issue, but with Best Buy sending out an update to all preorderers and GameStop also briefly updating its listing... collusion! We expect official work on this matter to break perhaps as soon as later today. Later this week at the worst.
The Last of Us is a PlayStation 3 exclusive from Uncharted developers Naughty Dog currently scheduled for release on March 7. Naughty Dog has fallen prey to delays in the past, however, and with the odd retail listings popping up it's entirely believable the game has been pushed to June 18. At least it's not delayed to September, right guys? Ha. Ha. Aw, now I'm sad. At least there's still a demo packed in with God of War: Ascension, right?
