Bungie's Destiny ARG promises seven days of cryptic messages, official announcement Feb. 17
Update Bungie confirms announcement for February 17
Bungie released an update today confirming that their new project is officially titled Destiny and that the title would be fully unveiled on February 17 (like we had guessed below). They also provided links to various new social media feeds on Twitter, Facebook and Google Plus.
Visiting Destiny's new Facebook page, fans were treated with the following message:
Welcome to the official Destiny Facebook page. Official Destiny news is coming soon!
You can be the first to see the reveal of Destiny right here on Feb. 17 (T-Minus 5 days).
A seven day alternate realty game (ARG) for Bungie's upcoming project Destiny has begun, but don't expect any grand revelations before the end of it. Instead, expect a series of small odd symbol alignment puzzles, followed by by a blurry image that may require community organization to clear up. Of course, that may just be the edge of the rabbit hole. What exactly are we looking at here?
The first portion of each puzzle is relatively easy to burn through by just clicking buttons. The second part, which I'm not entirely sure about, is rumored to require a large amount of simultaneous connections. Text above a blurry image reads "Coordinate. Combine. Clarify." which could mean several images just need to be overlaid. Anyways, the blurry image from the first day has been cleaned up and you can check it out in the header.
Of course, the real question everyone is thinking about is what happens at the end of the seven days. If day one was Monday then the countdown will end next Monday, the 18. Will Bungie's Destiny be fully unveiled then? Or perhaps we'll end up waiting until a certain next-gen event on the 20 for a full unveiling, with Monday only bringing about a teaser of sorts? Also, we know Bungie themselves have said Destiny will be unveiled within a matter of weeks. One thing is for sure: I hate ARGs.
Destiny is Bungie's upcoming original IP, said to be an "FPS MMO" to be published for Activision and exclusive to the Xbox 360 initially. These details first came about through an Activision lawsuit quite a while ago, however, so who knows what the current plan is. Check out the ARG yourself and help contribute to the cause.

Coincidentally, the backstory of the game goes back to eath's history, and that of the other planets around Sol (as well as the star itself).
Loving the ride so far, and Destiny is a Day 1 purchase for me, no matter what platform it releases on first. (It probably helps that I am a Halo- and Star Wars- fan too)
