I hate xbox and as much as i like to see their fans melt down.. Calm down lol.

Its not going to fail because of always online. If you understood the marketing research that went into this you would know that. 90% of players online at all times anyway? Not a big deal.

If you take away used games games will be cheaper quicker. Most new games on psn are discounted quite quickly. You can buy gta4 for 20 bucks, thats not going to change when they make gamestop stop ripping people off.

Im getting a ps4 anyway. Sony knows how to treat their customers and im very glad i got a ps3 instead of 360. Much more bang for my buck.

Way to start a post, you enjoy watching people get upset. Stellar individual here.

It will fail due to online only, especially if you're a PC gamer. You've probably run into this in the past. My first experience with it was Ubisofts draconian DRM. Loose connection for 30 seconds? Well you just got kicked out of the game regardless if when you last saved. They decide to take their servers down for maintence or they go down on their own and they take their time getting them back up? Well that game that doesn't even have multiplayer is now unavaiable to you until their servers come back up.

Online only is a bad direction to go, it gives no benefit to the gamer and only serves to hurt us. Online only is merely a bad method to try combating pirating, and I haven't even heard of console piracy this generation for what my anecdote is worth.

Sony knows how to treat their customers huh. Well now that first line makes more sense.

Funny thing is Sony are talking about no used games, as well.

I think this will be bad for games developers, the people they are trying to help with this. Obviously companies with already big names will be ok. People will still buy FIFA, COD, etc but will people be willing to have a go at some smaller games that don't have as much publicity?

There are games I have bought that were a bit of a gamble. Some I didn't like and ebayed, others I really like and kept. I wouldn't buy them in the first place is I knew I was stuck with it whether I liked it or not. As said above, reviews will be the life and death of some publishers, and most reviewers can't look past their own preferences.

Also companies like Lovefilm will lose out. I only have my subscription with them to rent games and try them out. I've bought a couple of games that I've liked from there, which I wouldn't have had I not tried them.

People should be careful what they wish for.

Yeah, what's going to happen with stores like GameStop & services like Gamefly?

And the only upside I can see is this should drive the price of games down a little bit.

I'm exactly the same, I only have Lovefilm.com for the game rental. Other then that I don't think I'd bother with a lot of the games.

Phil Anselmo - Lets hope so, and hope that the companies don't go "Well... we can make it cheaper, but we want to claim back the lost revenue from pre-owned games... so we're going to still charge the same"

Looks like Sony and Microsoft are digging their graves. Oh well at least wiiu is shaping up to have an awesome jrpg collection. That should hold me off until Valve reveals the steambox.

Don't see how the "must be always online" thing is different from today. You can't play DLC or Arcade games without the Internet with the 360.

I took you seriously before the kiddy meme & that completely wrong statement. You can barely run Windows XP with 512mb of RAM. Definitely can't play Black Ops 2 on that same machine. Spec for spec, consoles are superior at gaming with less. More efficient. Its nothing new.
My point flew over your head completely. Congrats on reading.

And since you compared spec to spec, I'll bite. Dollar for dollar, PCs are superior. Always have been. It's nothing new.

Eh, the next xbox's specs are still below par compared to a new gaming PC when it will be released. That's really sad. Hopefully by the time it's released they'll up the specs a bit, cut down the cores to 4 (at this point, I don't know a single 8 core processor for PCs on the market that actually works well - no point using technology that hasn't been perfected yet), increase the frequency to maybe 3.4ghz or higher (seriously? 1.6ghz? what are we in, 2001?), up the caches a little bit and get a 900mhz or higher GPU.
Assuming the rumors are true about them focusing on multitasking I have feeling they're planning on dedicating half of those to background tasks and things of that nature, thats the only use I can think of for that many at least. They might have cold feet from the RROD fiasco so the low clocked CPU might be an attempt to keep heat down, since most AMD CPUs do use quite a bit of power and if its their Jaguar architecture being a mobile chip it'll run much cooler than an FX chip for that many cores.

Also I think the PS3's inicial price is proof of why they can't match high end PCs. Most people won't pay that kind of money for a console there are already people complaining about the Wii U's price being too high.

Anyway, locking out used games completely is crossing the line, not even PCs have done that yet. Yes most PC sales are digital but the option is still there and what happens in the future when you can't buy new Xbox game?

1.6ghz would be too low still in my opinion. You'd probably need at least 2.2ghz. Also, if their worried about overheating, if it is an AMD chip, then just switch to an Intel chip. Intel's gaming chips work remarkably with staying at stable temperatures with adequate cooling. Also with Intel's hyperthreading technology, it'll allow for far greater performance with less cores and thus save a lot of money.

The next gen consoles are shaping up to be fancy PCs complete with operating systems and all so I wouldn't be surprised if, should the rumours of the specs be true, you'll see a lot of lag in the next gen xbox. Especially with that miserable spec sheet. Unless Microsoft is planning to release a new console every 3 years instead of 10 years, in which case, cool.

Consoles have always been expensive for what they offer, which is why I've never gotten into console gaming. The amount of money you pay for a decent experience on a console is through the roof compared to a PC. I think people have just gotten used to cheap systems, not realising the only reason the systems became that cheap was because the hardware used in them are technologically speaking, ancient.

Sure you can, as long as its on the console you originally downloaded it on or have transferred the license to. You bring up a great point though, maybe online only is just for activating a game?

How is it you're trying to compare a one time download to a constant connection?

Well there are times I can't play arcade and DLC without an Internet connection. So I dunno...
