I thought Sony made a patent for the used game category, or as they call it "second-hand" games. So if this is true, wouldn't Microsoft have to do something different with used games without violating that patent or something like that?

Eh, the next xbox's specs are still below par compared to a new gaming PC when it will be released. That's really sad. Hopefully by the time it's released they'll up the specs a bit, cut down the cores to 4 (at this point, I don't know a single 8 core processor for PCs on the market that actually works well - no point using technology that hasn't been perfected yet), increase the frequency to maybe 3.4ghz or higher (seriously? 1.6ghz? what are we in, 2001?), up the caches a little bit and get a 900mhz or higher GPU.

If the longevity of the 360 and PS3 are anything to go by, they'll need at the very least that much, or else they'll bottleneck the gaming industry's graphics in games again.

As for the DRM, well, PC gaming has seen these always online rules for quite a while now. It's no surprise that Microsoft is going to bring it to the console market. Just a bit sad really, that you can't play used games. It's going over the border of ridiculous. If I get bored of a game, I want to dispose of it. Normally by selling it to someone who wants it. If they can't play it, well, this is potentially ruin sales. People aren't going to impulsively buy games as much any more since they can't get rid of it if they don't like it. Reviews will also impact a game much more than it used to. They need to get rid of that.

I don't like reading rumours news: we want a solid/identifiable news...Don't be like a CNN!!! Even Communists don't abuse news like that....

THM I don't like rumors either, but we do love to encourage discussion in the Neo community. So with rumors like this that we think might be likely, we go ahead and publish them.

Of course, we also go to lengths to make sure it's clearly labeled as a rumor, minimize any sensationalism in the title and details, and state that the entirety of the article is purely speculation.

I think we've got a pretty good setup and it works well for how we do things here at Neo.

This is great news for developers that used games are going to be blocked, I hope there is some legitimate truth to this. And I pray that the cost to receive an unlock code is more than what Gamestop is asking to buy the game, that way you will have no choice but to purchase new. Sick of the "i deserve the discounted price" mentality that everyone has, these games aren't free to develop and when you only buy used all your money goes into Gamestops pockets. Put the money back where it belongs so we can keep the great games coming.
Not sure if serious...

I won't beat the dead horse. I'll just say what I always say: If they implement this bullshit technology in their system I'm not buying it.

This can't be serious.

Anyways Microsoft does this and they commit suicide. I will never buy an always online console that blocks used games on principle even though I pretty much own almost no previously owned games.

As it is these last few years I've found consoles in no way shape or form begin to match Steam. I have a hard time believing these rumors because this is pretty much saying "Hey valve we give up!"

*sigh* First Sony and now Microsoft? Man when did they replace their staff with complete morons? THIS is why everyone is switching over to PC and THIS is why we can't have nice things.

For games, consoles are always superior to their PC hardware equivalent because a console's hardware has one job and one job only... that's always been the case, nothing new. I meant the X360 has 512mb of RAM.

I hope the online only thing is only to validate games or something. I play games offline all the time when I'm traveling for work, hopping from hotel to hotel and such. Some hotels charge for wifi. Shit isn't right. The no used games thing sucks, too, but hopefully this will bring the price of games back down.

When one says "online only" they mean if you loose connection, even for a few seconds, you will have an interruption of your play. Take Diablo 3 as a recent example. If you want to play single player you still have to be connected the entire time.
