Idk, the d-pad looks a bit squished. Probably just the picture getting squished, though.

I would make a bet that a year from now, no one has a PS4 in their home. It's not going to happen that soon.

It wouldn't make sense to not have backwards compatibility............
Actually it would make perfect sense. The PS3 started with backwards compatibility, but they ripped it out. That's the way the industry has gone in the last 7 years. The trend is to offer older games to play, but only after they've been re-released so they can charge for them. Why? Because including actual emulation, where you play your PS2/PS3 games off their original discs, makes Sony no money whatsoever. The games come out of the used market because they're old, Sony can't make a dime.
Backwards compatibility is on the way out, and I'm not shocked PS4 won't support it.

Blame Nintendo. They started it. Through having a billion stupid game mediums, from cartridges to weird mini-disks to weird not-DVDs...including every type of drive in the Wii would be ridiculous. So they started just selling the games on their store for download. And it made them a fortune and Sony took after them, rather than spending money and time trying to polish PS2 emulation that they don't make money off.

Not even a big deal though. I still have my PS2 with my PS2 memory card, serves me fine. And anything older than that can be emulated on PC...or even my phone. And I'd rather play it on my phone anyway.
Just keep your PS3, it's not gunna be worth a whole lot anyway. EB might give you $8 off a PS4 for it, don't bother.

^That would be a big part of it. Backwards compatibility is also one of those things that get taken out in favor of reducing costs.

Never mind the actual emulation and any complications it may bring. PS1&2 is one thing but even if Sony could manage PS3 compatibility it probably wouldn't be worth the resources, it would require either a lot of horse power or actual hardware both of which are costly. You can always track down a PS3 just like people have done since every console ever made and old hardware isn't worth much anyway.

I'd take that bet. I think it's going to come out atleast in Japan by the end of the year.

I don't care that much about backwards compatibility, tbh. Would it be nice? Sure. But if it isn't a feature and I want to play a PS3 game, I'll just play it on my *bleep*ing PS3. I haven't played a PS2 game ever since a steady flow of PS3 games started coming out, about 10 months after launch. What's big news to me, or atleast the big rumor, is that Sony will be ditching the Cell and opting for a more traditional PC, making it easier for devs to make games for it. If that's the reason there won't be BC, well, I'd MUCH rather have good PS4 ports than the ability to play PS3 games on it.

I'm going to predict that PS4 will come out in North America and Japan in November 2013 while it will come out in Europe and Australia in January 2014. It'll cost £350, €400, $400 USD, $530 AUD and 51,000 Yen. I am confident about the release dates, not so confident about the pricing.

$400 USD, $530 AUD
I think you mean, $400 USD, $8,000,000,000 AUD. You obviously have no experience with Australian pricing. Do you realize the original PS3 launched here for $1000AUD?
$1000.
One thousand dollars. I sold my first car for less than that.

Existence, I think you have a point about BC. People want it because they've come to expect it. But a lot of people probably don't use it that much. Once a generation gets going, the previous generation just starts to look dated.

There are some very odd estimations about when it's coming out. Look at the past people: PS3 was announced May 2005, released November 2006. PS2, announced March '99, released March 2000. For PS4 to spend less than a year from announcement to release would be going against the trend.
Even the Vita and PSP follow this trend, PSP took a year and a half, Vita took just under a year.
I just don't understand how you can make a prediction of the future that ignores the past so completely.
And for them to release it a month after GTA V, likely to be the best selling PS3 game ever made. It just doesn't make any sense.

Oh I understand quite a bit about Australia's history of dealing with rather extortionate pricing. Though for me suggesting $530 AUD was more me being hopeful and keeping the prices in line with what it should be. I know fore well that my hopeful pricing more than likely won't extend to Australia, but it's a hopeful prediction and nothing more.

People definitely make a bigger deal out of it than it really is. Its just a nice feature, icing on the cake, but the moment its announced its "missing" theres no end to the griping and most of the people complaining will buy it as soon as their system seller is released anyway. Even people who already have the backwards compatible version of a console won't shut-up about it and feel the need to declare "no BC, no buy".

The only time its a big deal is if it enhances the old games in some way like the Vita does for PSP games, but I suppose its a bigger deal for handhelds anyway.

Ville_Vallo Well, consider this-

- The Vita was announced in Jan 2011 and released in Dec 2011 in Japan. Maybe an indicator that Sony has learnt to be pro active in it's gaming business, not to screw it up with the kind of attitude they were showing at the PS3's launch?

- We know almost nothing about any games coming out at the end of the year, and we usually have an idea about the definitive release windows of a few games by this time of the year. It's a black hole (atleast on the PS3/360, the only thing I keep track of). Hell, before GTA V and Splinter Cell Blacklist were delayed, we didn't even know of any game coming out in the second half of the year.

- After TLoU, we know nothing about what any of Sony's studios are up to. (Quantic Dream is 2nd party). Granted, this doesn't preclude a 2014 next gen console launch.

How funny would it be if this was inFamous 3?

I'd rather have that than PS4(Mainly because I3 would be a 20th of the price of the PS4.

I understand why older generations didn't last as long, because tech was advancing at an alarming rate back then. Now though, i still think this generation has a lot more to offer.

This is going to be a bold statement, but i don't think the next generation is going to have much of an improvement compared to say Mega Drive/Genesis to PSOne or PSOne to PS2.

The only improvement i can see from next gen is to be able to offer us more in one game but that is about it imo

Infamous 3 won't happen unless they make it about Kessler's life. :C
