Sony has released a teaser on the official PlayStation website, and what a teaser it is. Greeting visitors is a brief video (below) that shows us the iconic PlayStation button symbols flashing around. It's all very hyper-modern and not that fun to watch, but the implications here are pretty exciting. This could very likely be a teaser for the next PlayStation, also referred to as "PlayStation 4" or "Orbis."
Whatever it is, the big reveal is planned for February 20, 6:00 PM Eastern. With this being Sony, I wouldn't be terribly shocked if everything got leaked in advance, but here's hoping the surprise stays a surprise.
For those of you who love to speculate, our writer Rory has pointed out the mailing list requires a date of birth, which implies the February "meeting" might actually feature mature content, which implies gameplay from actual games.
Additionally, we'll point out that the Twitter hashtag reads "#PlayStation2013", not "PS3" or "PlayStation3."
Now then, just how excited are you? Nevermind that this would completely negate CEO Kaz Hirai's previous comments about not "going first" so as not to give competitors an edge. Unless Microsoft comes out and announces the next Xbox before then.
