For those among us who enjoy a good Sunday afternoon drive, then I have good news for you. Codemasters has announced the release date for the follow-up to one of the best games of 2009. GRID 2 will hit store shelves starting on May 28 for the PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Featuring a new "TrueFeel" handling system that balances realism with style and improved multiplayer connectivity with Codemasters' RaceNet community portal, GRID 2 sounds like just want fans are begging for.
In addition to the release date, Codemasters also announced the various retailer-specific preorder DLC packs that would be available for the game. Here are the three retailers that will have exclusive content and what they're offering:
- McLaren Racing Pack - Receive the exclusive McLaren MP4-12C GT3 Special Edition car to race in single-player, multiplayer and a special online event; plus expand the game with two new routes around the Brands Hatch GP circuit.
- GTR Racing Pack - Receive the exclusive Nissan GT-R SpecV road car to race in single-player, multiplayer and an exclusive online event; plus experience all five routes around the Yas Marina circuit by day.
- IndyCar Pack - Receive the exclusive Dallara IndyCar and the IndyCar Pace car to race in single-player, multiplayer and an exclusive online event; plus expand the game with two new routes around the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Oval Circuit.
- Head Start Pack - Receive the exclusive Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren 722 GT car to race in single-player, multiplayer and enjoy discounts in the Car Upgrades Store in online game modes and a unique RaceNet bonus.
Why GameStop gets double the DLC is anyone's guess (money), but maybe it's some sort of subtle statement the DLC offerred by the other companies are twice as valuable. Or probably some other reason (money). Anyways, we've got screenshots of each of the cars for everyone to peruse at their leisure. Quick warning, for some reason the the screenshots for the IndyCar Pack have no cars in them. Just an empty track. It's a mystery.
GRID fans should be pleased. A release date for GRID 2 and plenty of delicious preorder cars to dream about in the mean time. Here's looking forward to May 28, racing nuts.
Disclaimer: I don't know anything about cars.
