Interesting news today that Saint's Row 4 may be coming in August. That would make three full SR titles since the last full installment of Grand Theft Auto.
I wasn't aware of that. I thought we were looking at a November release. So, great news if its true! As far as I am concerned, until Rockstar proves otherwise, to me, Saint's Row is the new GTA.
New consoles in November it's why nothing is scheduled for that month currently, it's actually the first time in 8 years nothing has been scheduled for November games wise. Now some games may come out then like Call of Duty which will likely be cross-generational, but anything that is PS3 and 360 only is out before October and Saints Row 4 seems no different.

You're forgetting IV's expansion packs. They were put out instead of an incrementally better game ala Vice City. Sure they're no Vice City, but there were two of them, and you can't pass it off saying R* have been absent since IV game out.

And anyway, say what you want about GTA (Chiro ), it has that much more detail than SR. And I don't mean detail in rubber *bleep* and silly mini-games, I mean the hard stuff like hardcore graphics, physics, etc.

Don't forget San Andreas, which would be this gen's Ballad of *bleep* Tony.

This is all Monday morning quaterbacking. First off, when GTA was great, and I mean REALLY GREAT, you know what everyone said about it? Do you remember back in the PS2 days what the reviewers and gamers all agreed upon?

"GTA is AMAZING, awesome gameplay and incredible depth, but terrible graphics!"

Mind you, they were talking about terrible graphics for the PS2, which by today's standards is obviously pretty bad!

What's my point?

Simple: When did GTA become about graphics over gameplay? Seriously, has anyone even thought about this? GTA used to be about unfathomably good gameplay and graphics you just sort of accepted because there were limited console resources. We all got that. But GTA IV, as far as I am concerned, was all about great graphics and mediocre gameplay. So to answer your implied question, WHO CARES?

If GTA V has amazing gameplay, then and only then, will I care about the graphics and detail. If the gameplay is lackluster, then I will tire of it very quickly.

Oh and by the way? SR3 has better graphics than GTA IV. Just Cause 2 has WAAAAY better graphics and detail than GTA IV. This is because the later games evolve the graphics even on the same console since devs get more familiar with the platform. I know you of all people already know this. So, yeah, of course GTA V will have amazing graphics. The reason is twofold:

First, Rockstar cares WAY MORE about graphics than I do, and they care about it (at least they did in GTA IV) to the exclusion of gameplay. And second, again, Rockstar devs are far more familiar with the console platforms now than they were in 2007 or so when they started really working on IV.

Im still betting this game comes out on next gen consoles. Maybe current gen consoles but I do think at least cross gen. Watch it get delayed again and get fully remade for next gen consoles for release next year.

Another delay would be kinda funny though. I wonder how some people round here would react. But then if im honest i wish that on no-one. The recent delay may have screwed me over but i dont wish any bad luck on anyone else.

"GTAV: Spring...2014"

WAIT! Maybe thats what they ACTUALLY meant !!! Maybe spring 2013 was just a collosal typo all along!!! Maybe the delay back from spring to september was actually the game being brougt brought forward from next spring to September! Heeeey thinking like that is ACTUALLY making me feel better. God Bless denial.

GO R* !

I can fanboy again !

I said full titles, and obviously they haven't been absent, releasing the expansion packs (which used the same in-game resources and only changed the gameplay mildly, if at all) and brilliant titles such as Max Payne and Red Dead Redemption.

I was merely pointing out that it has been a very long time since we've seen Rockstar do something entirely new with its biggest blockbuster franchise. In the context of this gaming generation, it's been eons. Any delay simply compounds that fact in my mind.

I don't know about that, Scarch. Let's take a look at Rockstar's long and consistent GTA history:

In every single, solitary instance of every single GTA game starting with III, Rockstar has promised that the games would be exclusive to the initial console(s) and would never, ever, ever port them over to the others. They did it with GTA III, VC, SA, and even with LCS and VCS, which were supposed to ONLY ever be on the PSP. The two DLC episodes for IV? Same thing.

Now that isn't the important part, but this is: Whenever Rockstar ported a GTA title, it made NO DIFFERENCE how superior the platform was they were porting to. The XBox was a much faster and graphically superior console to the PS2, and all the XBox version got with the three PS2 GTA's was stepped up graphics. No extra features, no extra missions, no anything! Same with the PC versions, and clearly the PC ports could have been seriously packed with new features! The only exception was PC modding. The PSP games LCS and VCS were somewhat limited because of the PSP's inferiority to the PS2. Yet when Rockstar ported VCS and LCS over to the PS2, did they add anything? No. In fact, they took stuff out...like multiplayer!

tl;dr - Anyway, my point is this: I seriously doubt that a cross-platform version of GTA V will be in any way superior to the 360 and PS4 versions, if such a port is even created. More likely than not, any port to the new consoles would benefit ONLY by slightly better graphics, load times, and perhaps a marginally superior frame rate when there is a lot of action on the screen. But you know what? That is all the PC port will likely get, too, well, again, other than modding.

So don't worry, dude! When you buy GTA IV on the PS3 or 360 it will be 99.99999% the same game as it will be, if it is even ported to the next gen consoles.

Honestly, while I love gaming, and yes, I get totally stoked for a game I have been looking forward to, delays never really bother me all that much. Not to sound pejorative, but I always have so much going on in my life that a 6 month or more delay is more along the lines of, "Ah, okay. I'll play it then. No problem."

I think if they announced a delay a week before a game was supposed to launch, I would have a problem with it, because that would just seem a little rude, but even that is kind of "whatever."

But a game that was not announced kind of half-heartedly for Spring but two to three months before had little or NO information other than a city name and two trailer? Honestly, when I saw the complete lack of information in the new year, I knew in my heart this game was going to be delayed, no doubt. No way does Rockstar under-hype a brand new full GTA game two months before it is supposed to launch. No way.

Can I possibly be the only one in the forum who saw this coming a mile away?

That's not my point, my point is that it does have better graphics, which is why we can have 2 Saints Rows to a GTA.
And I do believe IV has better graphics than Saints Row. But that's me.

I don't believe this. I know they definitely said VCS and LCS would be PSP only, but I find it hard to believe they were all "PS2 exclusive". And the DLC packs were never exclusive, it was common knowledge that Microsoft were trying to save their inferior console by spending a gajillion dollars on a timed exclusive...but it was only ever a timed exclusive.

As for the game coming out for the next generation, oh please. Not happening

You don't know that, Ville_Valo. If the game is delayed one more time, say even just a few months, Rockstar may indeed create some form of a cross platform release, though as I said, the differences between the current and next gen ports would be mostly perfunctory.

You are writing revisionist history with regard to the Episodes, because the HUGE claim to fame about the 50 million dollars MS paid Rockstar was that they were billed as absolute exclusives, not timed exclusives. Sure, we all knew they would get ported, Rockstar is unbelievably predictable about their so-called exclusives, and always has been with GTA games.

GTA IV does not have better graphics than SR3. I would agree that Liberty City is a much prettier, better designed city than Steelport, sure. It certainly has much more memorable landmarks as well. Then again, Rockstar had an absolutely amazing blueprint because they basically copied New York City.

And that wasn't my point. My point is I don't care about the graphics unless I actually like the game. Eye candy is fantastic in a game you love. Crap graphics are acceptable in a game you love. Even for 2001, 2003, and 2005, GTA III, VC, and SA, respectively, the graphics were considered poor. Now, all of a sudden, in 2008, GTA IV comes out with amazing graphics and gameplay that divided the GTA community because so much of us thought it sucked.

Coincidence?

Perhaps not.

Don't think we'll ever be seeing any cross-platforming at this point with the next gen consoles being rumored to have some strict DRM. They'd want you to buy the game for the new console and not the old one... especially if they adopt a pound-you-in-the-ass DRM where new games are registered to you and you alone so you can't ever trade or sell them.

It's why I think Sony scrapped the backwards compatibly with the PS3... more incentive for you to buy shit off the PSN (re: buy games you already own) like GTA and MGS:HD.

You know what the worst part about this shitty post is?

You are, very sadly, 100% right!

lol In other words, it isn't your post that's shitty.

It is absolutely AMAZING the lengths that unscrupulous publishers and now console developers are willing to go to in order to screw gamers. It is absolutely horrendous, and it is going to bite them in the ass, because I believe this shit is going to vastly increase piracy and more aggressive jailbreaking of consoles.

Yes, and your very lucky to be in a position to take that attitude. But lets remember others have different lifestyles.

I recently got some news which... lets just say affects my future. GTA being pushed back to September specifically is literally the worst thing that could have happened gaming wise. I wish i were in a position to be OK with that news. Oh well. What can i do ? Not a lot.

Delaying it just a week or two AFTER giving us such a long awaited though admitantly half arsed release time is rude IMO. Very. Especially as we dont have a specific reason. Thats the worst part for me personally. (I am not even entertaining their "appology" statement. Utter nonsense) And again i wish i were in a position to just say "whatever". But mneh, life just throws you curve balls sometimes.

I'll just have to pu it out of my mind and keep plugging away on BF3 haha. Thats not such a bad thing i guess.

Nope. I have been worrying about delays since the first trailer. I think its been a concern of most. Didnt wanna believe it would happen though. Such little else to look forward to.
