Dead Space 3 will include unlockable Hardcore mode that kills you permanently
One life, one chance, so don't f**k it up!
The addition of co-op in Dead Space 3 left plenty of potential players rather annoyed, accusing Visceral of abandoning the whole "horror" part in the horror genre. Well, that doesn't mean the game can't still be hard, regardless of how scary you personally consider solo-versus-cooperative to be. Visceral Games is adding a Hardcore Mode to Dead Space 3, unlockable only once you've beaten the game.
In Hardcore Mode, players will have just one life through the entire campaign, because you know, letting players save a whole three times in Dead Space 2's Hardcore Mode was just too easy.
Several other modes will also be available, like a Classic Mode for "the D1 veterans out there," which disables crafting, making all weapons constructable from blueprints alone, like in the original Dead Space. This mode will also use classic aiming, without iron sights.
Pure Survival Mode will restrict resource access, making resources available only from downed enemies. Executive producer Steve Papoutsis comments, "You'll have to choose what to craft every time you see a bench. Upgrade? Med Pack? Plasma Core? Think fast - there's a Waster right around the corner!"
Of course, Dead Space 3 will also have a New Game+ Mode, which lets you start a new file after finishing the campaign and carry over all your gear and upgrades.
Papoutsis has teased a "top secret additional story" too, but that won't be revealed until later, most likely before the game is out on February 5. Unless he's referring to DLC.

Dead Space was never really an easy game, even on normal mode.
The most dangerous parts is gravity plating, and climbing up/down cliff faces. (stuff that insta-kills you)
