It wouldn't be an Electronics Arts game without that sad feeling on launch day that your $60 didn't buy you a full game experience. Today's SimCity trailer shows off what will be included in the $80 Digital Deluxe Edition package, for dedicated fans who want to support their favorite Sim franchise harder than other dedicated fans support it.
According to EA's preorder site for SimCity, the Digital Deluxe Edition will include the following DLC bonus packs:
- Heroes and Villains Set
- French City Set
- German City Set
- British City Set
It's worth mentioning that the standard, $60 "Limited Edition" of SimCity will also include the Heroes and Villains Set if preordered. There is no standard edition. Basically, for $20 EA will release Europe from its control. EA is holding Europe as a DLC hostage.
To be fair, a lot of work obviously goes into the creation of the DLC packs. Everything requires re-skinning and I can imagine there's all sorts of new content and mission, achievements... wait. Missions and achievements, too? A whole chunk of gameplay earmarked as DLC prior to the game's launch. Be still, Rory, this is not the time or place!
SimCity will be available March 5 for the PC, exclusive to the Origin platform and its connected online systems. Online you can check out your friends DLC skins and know how much of a disappointment your are for not buying more DLC yourself. There's more to be said here, but I'm sure everyone can fill in the blanks in the comments.
