Crytek prepares to setup new Austin studio, could spell hope for Darksiders developer Vigil Games
German studio opening first U.S. division, headed by former Vigil bigwig David Adams
Last week's news of THQ's auction left a lot of us feeling pretty down, but there might just be hope for Darksiders developer Vigil Games. The studio went unclaimed in the auction, which pretty much meant its days were numbered, but hope for Vigil now comes from an unlikely source: Crytek.
The German developer will soon be opening its first US studio based in Austin, and heading that studio is former Vigil general manager and co-owner David Adams.
Adams will be overseeing a team of "35 experienced developers, and a company representative reportedly hinted that the staff may include several more Vigil veterans. No confirmation was given, however.
According to Crytek representative Jens Schafer, the new Crytek USA is "more like a new start for [the team at Vigil]."
The Austin studio would be Crytek's first in America. The developer already has eight other studios across the globe, located in the Ukraine, Bulgaria, Hungary, Seoul, Nottingham, Shanghai, and Istanbul.
