If you haven't already heard the big news, publisher THQ is no more, and its assets have been either sold off or completely dissolved. Without a doubt, today has been a rough day for a lot of people out there. Well, Ubisoft and Koch Media/Deep Silver, as new owners of a few former THQ studios and IPs, have officially extended their welcome.
Ubisoft is now the new publisher and owner of THQ Montreal, therefore responsible for the completion of South Park: The Stick of Truth. Koch Media/Deep Silver, on the other hand, bought up Volition for Saints Row and will also be responsible for the Metro series.
On their purchase of THQ Montreal, Ubisoft Montreal president Yannis Mallat said:
“This deal adds experienced developers to our internal creative teams at a key moment in the cycle of the video game industry."
Deep Silver, as Koch Media's publishing branch, will be in charge of future Saints Row and Metro titles. Regarding this change in ownership, Deep Silver COO Geoff Mulligan tactfully commented:
“These franchises hold a special place in the hearts and minds of anyone who loves exceptional video games.
"We’re thrilled to usher in a new era for these franchises and are proud to welcome the visionaries and talented forces at Volition on board."
