The Wonderful 101 and Bayonetta 2 highlighted during Nintendo Direct, Platinum Games loves Wii U
Every super hero needs a water-slide break from time to time
Argh! Probably the worst part of today's Nintendo Direct was that both of Platinum Games' Wii U titles, The Wonderful 101 and Bayonetta 2, were teased but did not receive release dates. Terrible! The delay is overwhelming. However, Nintendo president Iwata did deliver a high quality Wonderful 101 trailer and a behind-the-scenes look at Bayonetta 2. My impatience is sated for now, but for how long?
First, we're presented with a full-on epic gameplay trailer for The Wonderful 101, in which we're introduced to a handsome looking antagonist named Lambo, who I've nicknamed as Eel Gorilla, or who the protagonists call "Banana Breath". He looks like Street Fighter's M. Bison stepped in some toxic ooze. From then on the trailer is packed full of huge enemies, gigantic weapons and cinematic battle sequences.
The Bayonetta 2 video doesn't feature any gameplay, instead focusing on providing developer feedback on the game's progress. While short and rather succinct, the video does a great job of showing that the team is focused on recreating the look and feel of the original Bayonetta replicated on the Wii U, but stepping up the scope and scale:
"The scale of the game is completely different this time, so it feels like you're fighting the last boss from the very beginning. I think people are going to have lots of fun with it."
Platinum Games is focused on making sure Bayonetta 2 maximizes the potential of the Wii U. Considering the studio is third party, that's a glorious thing to hear from someone not Nintendo.
Overall, while release dates would have been glorious, these Platinum Games videos for The Wonderful 101 and Bayonetta 2 are just what fans needed to help remind us the Wii U has a great future. Expect more news on The Wonderful 101 soon, preparing it for a spring/summer release, and we'll likely hear more about Bayonetta 2 at E3.
