Agreed.

Though what concerns me most is the possibility of them ditching Dualshock.

Specs don't mean a thing to average consumers. What matters is available harware packages and price points along with a good title lineup and well planned launch date. If either system comes out with a hefty price tag they will struggle in tgis sluggish U.S. economy. So who ever fires first better get it right

This. Even though I'm a 360 guy, I have no trouble acknowledging that the Dualshock is the most perfect gaming controller ever designed. Simple, elegant perfection.

Am I the only one that thinks that controllers need a change? I love the 360 and outside the dpad find it far superior to Sonys controller which hasn't changed outside motion for years but controllers are vastly inferior to keyboard and mouse but keyboard and mouse aren't exactly the most user friendly.

The design prototypes microsoft showed where extremely interesting and Valve talking about a controller that expands upon keyboard and mouse is exciting, these controllers need change.

TBH the leak isn't verified so this could be just an unreliable source aimed at drawing Microsoft out into revealing their specs before Sony releases the official ones.

To the average user though, this won't matter. Most people will only care about how the game runs and what it looks like, not what is in the average console.

Isn't this what they always do? Not a surprise.

Do they not pay attention when Nintendo outsells both of them with the weakest tech?

That logic worked perfectly for the PS3 [sarcasm].
Gamers want a next gen machine so unless you're biased towards a particular company (like me) most people will buy whichever comes first. I'm pretty sure that is now a proven theory.
The PS2 dominated over Xbox yet when the 360 arrived almost a full year before the PS3 most people jumped ship over to Xbox 360 purely because they wanted a next gen machine. The PS3 has been playing catch up ever since.
Consumers don't care about specs, they just want the newest tech.

Specs really don't matter. There is like one or two console exclusives that anyone cares about each year, the rest are multiplatform. Multiplatform games will be designed to work on both consoles and will be roughly the same in effeciency.

After the near flop of the PS3 with its higher specs that really didn't make a difference, high price point, and poor launch exclusives. I can assure you that waiting to charge more for your product is a bad idea.

Hmm I waited a while before buying a console this generation. I am a fan of RPG's so I got the PS3 without thinking about it, only to find that 6 months in there wasn't a single one on the horizon but FF13 (which was multiplatform) while the 360 had Blue Dragon and Mass Effect with Lost Oddessy on the way?

I traded my PS3 in for a 360 a few months after buying it. It had nothing to do with specs and everything to do with the PS3 having a terrible gaming selection.

That sounds all well and good, but going last to scope out the competition won't help if the consumers already bought it and don't want to drop more cash on your stuff.

I think the PS3 and Vita are proof of just how much consumers care about who has the higher specs. If MS launches with a subsidized Xbox with a two year subscription to LIVE like rumors have stated and a high-profile online game or two, Kaz will probably end up with egg on his face.
