Project X Zone, Namco Bandai's crossover RPG with Capcom and Sega, being localized for the 3DS
All sorts of characters, the majority of which are niche
The latest title in Namco Bandai's "X" series just got the okay to be localized for North America, following in the footsteps of Namco x Capcom and Cross Edge. 3DS RPG Project X Zone is a three-party crossover featuring character from several Namco Bandai, Capcom and Sega titles.
While there are a number of niche characters perhaps unknown to the wider North American audience, familiar faces like Capcom's Dante, Chris Redfield and Megaman should add broader appeal. Characters from Sega and Namco tend to come from a more RPG-centric place, like from Sakura Wars, .hack, Valkyria Chronicles and God Eater. Something for everyone, I suppose?
Here's a brief summary of the concept behind Project X Zone, as per Namco Bandai's vice president of marketing, Carlson Choi:
"Project X Zone is the first title to ever combine such a large cast of characters from a varied list of game franchises into one grand adventure. Developing a cohesive game and storyline to encompass all of these great characters and their battle-styles was a huge challenge that has paid off greatly with the creation of a truly unique and groundbreaking gaming experience."
Project X Zone will be released exclusively for the 3DS in the summer. There's too many characters to list straigh away (dozens and dozens), but if you play a lot of Japanese video games then you'd be doing yourself a disservice by not watching out for this.
