Got an email saying my beta key has arrived. Entered it into Origin, and half a day later downloading it I still can't enter the game because it's got an update.

GG EA.

One hour is enough to put my city in debt and destroy it with multiple earthquakes.
Basically my exact thought pattern

When are we supposed to hear back from EA on how to access the Beta?

thats true. They got rid of the time lock in the Just Cause 2 demo.
Anyways, if I record the gameplay of this game when i play the beta and post it on youtube, will EA get mad and try and block the video?

tekmosis, Always online DRM isn't an anti-piracy measure, publishers think it is but pirates are good at what they do. I mean Far Cry 3 a game that requires uPlay an online service complete with a login is all over torrent sites. Always online DRM measures only affect paying customers, this game if offered entirely free for a weekend would be on Pirate Bay stripped free of all its DRM within hours..

Why not allow people to just have a free weekend playing it

Would allow people to have to do the tutorial and have a good amount of time to have a go on their own.

Im not gonna bother going through the trouble just for a hour
Piracy reasons.. If they give you a 1 hour slice they can gauge how far you'll get by knowing the behind the scenes data. This allows them to manufacture a beta that has enough content to last about 90 minutes even though you'll be playing 60, just in case you're a SimCity god and work faster than most.

If they put up the full game for a weekend it would be on torrent sites within 30 minutes of going live. There has to be a limitation or no one will buy this game as everyone will have pirated it 2 months ahead of release. This beta is more than likely to test the always online servers while giving players a little taste of the SimCity reboot.
But the game has an "always online" DRM. They can just block access/logins with your Origin account.

Changes nothing personally... I just hate betas at their best.

Double post

But just looking at some news about it and apparently the one hour is repeatable so you can play it as many times as you like but you can only repeat the same one slice what ever that means.

A link to where i found it

The good news is that you can play multiple times over the weekend. the bad news is you get to repeat the same hour's slice the whole time

Just give me a Sim City 2000 on PSVita in HD form, I'll buy it.

I'm not going to bother with the beta. I generally do not get on with betas anyway, besides, the time limit is just pointless and makes no sense whatsoever.

But this is just the beta, isn't going to stop me getting the game altogether, mostly for my curiosity more than anything else.
