Suda 51's list of cool things: zombies, anime, cell-shading, samurai swords, noire, cyborgs, shadows, femmes fatales, blood (but only lots), cryptic narrators, dudes in suits, video games. This is the ingredient list of a brilliant game designer. Boom, welcome to Killer is Dead, Suda 51's newest action title that's more of an odd carnival ride through the mind of someone insane.
It's difficult for me to even begin to summarize what's shown in the trailer, but here's Killer is Dead's protagonist breaking the fourth wall instead:
"My name is Monda Zappa. I am an executioner. I guess I am the main character of this game. A lot of things will be revealed from now on, but one thing is for sure: this is a story of 'Love and Execution.' "
Love and execution? Well, that sound quite delightful. Wondering how Monda's job as an assassin will work in with lunar tourism and all the other various plot points and themes is making me bleed from the ears a little bit. How does Suda 51 manage to make such astoundingly interesting games that I'm not really sure I ever want to play? Well, at least the trailers are fun to watch.
Killer is Dead is scheduled for a summer release in Japan for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. No news yet on it coming to North America or Europe, as the game doesn't have an international publisher. Hopefully that will be remedied soon, because I am excited to see more of this game.
