As far as quality boss battles go, Metal Gear has reall been setting the bar for the past 15 years. If this new trailer for Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance is any indicator, they've still got it. In the trailer we see three fights between Raiden and a few new, ultra high-tech opponents. Seriously, these guys are so jacked up even Snake, old or young, would be out of his league. Good thing there's a superpowered cyborg with a sword around.
Mistral, the many-armed, Monsoon, of many pieces, and Sundowner, the whoever he damn well pleases, make up the bulk of the trailer, but there's a special appearance by Samuel near the end. While at times many of the fights seem like mashing a sword slash until you win, there's not argument that the animations look beyond impressive and as cinematic as we'd expect from a Metal Gear game. Seriously, it looked like Monsoon's bits and pieces were dynamically dodging Raiden's sword slashes in real time. Hot damn.
Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance will be released on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 February 19, though you can try out a demo for the title on Tuesday, January 22. Hopefully Platinum Games really blows us away and Metal Gear Rising becomes a solid side-franchise of its own.
