LZ Schneider Those are all great ideas (especially the ones about triggers), but that doesn't mean they need to completely overhaul the controller or do something stupid like put a screen in the controller.

As a Nintendo supporter I feel I should inform you that if Sony do copy the game-pad then Sony's fans will be in for a treat.

Although no offence when I say that I hope Sony don't go to extremes fixing the minor weaknesses of Nintendo's Gamepad as, since this is the first generation of them, I think it would be best to start with a reasonable uniform design for the sake of third parties; plus it would encourage a few multi-platform releases.

Good luck with the rumours!

Oh c'mon look what happened with the PS3's "new" controller. It sucked, it was absolutely uncomfortable. There was a reason they went back to the Dualshock. It worked, it's been working since PS1. No need to change it in my opinion... Both the Xbox and PS3 controllers have impeccable designs for the games each console is known for. Xbox's offset analogue button and larger bumpers work perfectly for action oriented games and shooters, and feel so natural when quick movement and spot on targeting are needed. The Playstation's design is good for advenure-esque and hack n slash games where quick button presses and split second changes are needed. Stop trying to change, please! Improve is fine, but complete changes are unecessary.

LZ Schneider, while i don't necessarily agree with you, those are all minor changes that can be implemented while keeping the main structure/design of the controller. This seems to be complete design overhaul, and seeing as we've had the same design of controller for 18 years it's definitely a big deal

I'm sorry but I dislike how the DS3 control stick numbers are convex. I also dislike how there are buttons under it. Also, those trigger buttons on the back? *bleep* those too for not having lips on their ends. I mean, the DS3 is a wonderful controller but it does have some flaws that could use an update to truly make it perfect.

I await this new controller with open arms, I expect good things!

Please. No. Dammit Sony, the Dualshock is fine. Stop trying to copy Nintendo. The PS Move was a bad idea, and so is this.

This could actually be a big game breaker for me... I guess I'll wait and see, but I can't say I'm happy with the news.

Aww, I hope its not too big of a change, I like the current design. I like the Xbox controller for shooters but I find the dualshock to be better for everything else, especially games that use button combinations.

That track ball for a right stick sounds nice, the accuracy of a mouse (more or less) with the analog movement of a control stick would be awesome.

Out of all controllers I've used the xbox360 one still works best for me, although I have large hands I'd even prefer a bigger 360 controller. But it just has a good shape to hold in your hands, unlike the old PS1/2 ones. I could deal with the PS1 controller when I was little but I do get cramps now if I have to use one of those.

I hate the PS3 controller. It feels all cheap and plasticy and the two analog sticks are too close together and after a while they strain my thumbs. The face buttons are very flat and loud and the squeaking in the back triggers is just crazy. Give me a good sturdy Xbox controller any day

Let's hope it's actually for the better. The rumors of the 360 controller replacing analog sticks for something more accurate like trackballs for the right stick sounds incredible. These controllers really do need change.

Also I loved the PS3 boomerang. What other console would have you rage throw the controller to your expensive plasma only to have it swing back to you BEFORE you break anything and back into your hands?
