Rumor: Sony leaving behind Dualshock controller design for Orbis, looks to PS Vita for inspiration
... but it is a boomerang, too?
CVG is reporting that Sony will be moving away from its classic Dualshock controller design for it next-gen console. Sources are saying the Sony has gone through several design iterations on the controller, likely more than we'd even assume, and few retain the look of the familiar controller's design. Instead, Sony is looking at the PlayStation Vita for inspiration.
According to a "senior game studio source" working on a next-gen Sony title, the new controller is experimenting with various LCD touchscreens and biometric sensor grips. Think, perhaps, a PlayStation Vita without the costly screen, built more for comfort rather than for travel. Sony is likely thinking about a myriad of small technologies they can slip into the next-gen controller so it will last for years to come.
Hopefully we'll hear more about Sony's controller for the Orbis soon. While it's difficult to say goodbye to the simple beauty that is the Dualshock, innovation is key. I don't think that after this many years of the same controller design fans would be too sore to see something new. Something... like a boomerang... with touchscreens.

Touch screens though? Bloody hell. The current ones cost way too much as it is.
Maybe the controller will just be a Vita, that way PS4 and Vita can die together!
Jokes aside, I don't mind change. As long as it's *bleep*ing tested well before it's shoved down our throats, then by all means.
Without meaning to fan the fire though do they have a name they accept for international geographical purposes?
I know I am probably seeming a bit thick but, as I am not from your country, plus tell me if there is something politically incorrect about calling the indigenous people of Australia and their technology, 'Australian'. I'd hate it if my ignorance of a foreign culture (or two interwoven foreign cultures) accidentally upset or offended someone.
Sorry for going on about it, I just don't want to cross any cultural taboos with people who might not be as forgiving.
I mean Nintendo were 'threatened' when publishers thought they might not include one, so I doubt Sony would 'get away with it' either even if they wanted to. So I'd say you are pretty safe regardless.
Assuming of-course they don't try to base them both on some form of Australian projectile. Hahah, sorry couldn't resist. XD
