Those were the days! I only go with Fire first because that's how I started playing Pokemon. Charmander was my first starter and I choose to do my first playthrough with the fire starter in each game.

Please,

Grass - Very difficult, requires a lot of team leveling
Water - Easy mode. Basically focus on your starter and maybe another good typing (such as pyschic) and win the game with relative ease. Laugh at the elite 4.
Fire - More or less easy mode, build up 2 or 3 pokemons and you'll have a good time but requires more team leveling than water.

Ehhh. I think fire is pretty easy mode, with the exception of R/B/Y when you had a rock gym followed by a water gym as the first two...oh the time spent grinding up to get a butterfree in Viridian Forest so you could beat brock >>

Water is made especially true when you have almost stupidly strong water starters like Feraligator and Mudkip. Empoleon was also a great wall in the campaign and blastoise was the weak link. I don't care for Oshawatt.

I cannot recall where or when i read it, but they are making the starters with this pattern in mind in every generation:

quote Unknown Source
Grass: Less strong - easier to raise.

Water: Balanced.

Fire: Strongest - harder to raise.
Of course campaign-wise.

Anyways as it has always been most people will choose the Fire starter, about equal people will go for the grass type and some dedicated water type users (Phi) will get the frog. I personally like the frog but I think i will go for the Fire if its typing is a Fire/Psychic. I believe it is a cool typing and one the first non-Fire-Fighting type starter in like AGES!

Chespin would be cool if it was (or one of the evos) of Grass/Ground typing. Plain Water type for frog will be fine, although it would seem a little forever-alone if it did not get a cool typing combination!

Again another reason why I typically choose the Fire starter. I like a challenge. But there are Gens where I just want to facedesk at how A. stupid they look or B. I find useless in the game overall. Im looking at you Gen IV and V. The Water starters tend to be a secondary thing for me. I like a few. Blastoise and Feraligater to name a few. Ill use them but their not my top priority. I've liked all of the grass starters that have been made. Sceptile and Serperior are my favorites. Too me the Grass starters are not as easy to train as the others. I guess its because Im used to training Fire and Water. Im never entirely sure what to have their movesets as and whats stats to have. But I do get it right in the end.

Anyways by looking at the starters this Gen I think that Chespin will have a fighting or ground subtype. Fennekin will be a pure Fire type or have a psychic subtype like suggested. My favorite right now is Froakie and I believe that he will be a pure Water type.

I'm not talking about fennekin. I'm talking about the lack of typing for the oh so obvious Ninetales. The pokedex constantly references her as to having mystical powers, in japanese folklore foxes (such as what Fennekin is) are sinister pranksters with mystical properties. Ninetales learns a buttload of psychic and dark moves and even a ghost move here and there. Magnemite and Magneton got an additional typing in Gen 2 but Ninetales stayed fire and fire she remains which doesn't make a lot of sense.

Which is why I hope for an evolution, she really could use a buff in the special attack department.
It probably has more to do with being Arcanine's counterpart than anything else. If they did anything to Ninetales they would probably feel obligated to change Arcanine to balance things and stone evolutions are always the final form anyway.

Gamefreak also talks about not wanting to alienate fans, even though most new fans have no idea what the old games were like in the firs place and most older fans are coming up with these sort of changes themselves.

Some people may be thinking that already but they could make Arcanine a DArk type and Ninetales a Ghost or a Psychic one. That would be cool!

The only thing that's really making me love Chespin is it's fanart. Some artists draw him so exceptionally well, and so cute :3 The official artwork is meh, but the fanart is so much better. <3

I honestly don't know why ninetales wasn't typed or retyped to fire/psychic. Makes no sense given her movepool, appearance, the Japanese more of foxes and in canon more of ni stakes. Hopefully she gets retyped which is unlikely at this point or gets an evolution to correct this.
How many of the dual typed starters have their initial form with both types? Lets be serious here, we only know about their base forms currently.

Axe Yeah!? Well.... you're an axe!
You gotta admit Chespin does look kinda strange. Well they all look strange.

I really never thought Id see the day that one of the starters would be a frog. I knew it would happen one day but not until like Gen XX.

How did you come by this knowledge? Cause everyone I talk too is tired of the Fire/Fighting combo. Myself included. If I did a poll of my friends and acquaintances Im sure that more than half of them would chose the first 3 Fire starters and then start picking the Grass or Water starters. Infernape and Emboar are really useless.

Anyway Im leaning toward Chespin or Froakie. Most likely Froakie because it looks the best of them all.
/shrug it's from polls online. Hardly scientific but on the whole Fire is always the most popular starter in every poll I've seen for every generation.

Also your comment that infernape is rather confusing. If you don't choose infernape but want a fire type on your team your only choice is to catch ponyta, which is terrible. Infernape is quite good, pretty common in OU, calling it useless really leaves me totally baffled.
Im not saying that it isn't good. I like Infernape. I just dont find much use for it. Thats why I find it useless.
