I hate to say it, but pretty much everything about the new Simcity sounds bad. Unlocking, leveling up, always on DRM, etc. I don't want to have to unlock stuff, if I want a hospital, I should just be able to buy it. I shouldn't have to unlock infrastructure, that sounds horrible.

Everything he explained as reasons for always being connected could be built into a single player game, with the option of going online. They are just making excuses for why they are using always on DRM, period!

Fact is, I deal with people all day, every day, a lonely experience is exactly what I am looking for!

They did an AMA on reddit not that long ago
They also did a terrible job of addressing peoples concerns, such as no localized saves; as well as what happens when your internet goes out while you are playing.

They were unable to answer specifics about many issues actually, which doesn't set well with me.

Apparently, the game can deal with short outages, but they were unable to give a value to what a short outage was, merely saying, "a period of minutes," or sum such thing. If you continue to play, and the connection doesn't return, you would lose all of that game data.

They were looking for some good PR when they did that AMA, but instead it turned into a nightmare. Every time a company tries using always on DRM, it backfires horribly, yet they keep trying different angles to get it to pan out.

All the reasons they gave for it do not even require a perma connection to do, other cities when no one is in them will use free will - unless Maxis are idiots. Therefore offline play would be fine as long as the AI is not retarded.

Been looking for a good SimCity since 4... Was super stoked for this, even was a big fan of the interplay they were putting in it... Now they announce it's always-online? Dang... Way to let us down, once again. Although I have no idea why I'm surprised, EA's name's on the label...

Very disappointing indeed. Especially the part about no localized saves? I have been craving a new SimCity for so long though, so I will still probably end up buying it. Sometimes it's nice playing a game where I don't have to kill people, haha.

I think they have missed a trick as it would be a great game to have or your laptop to play on a long journey plane, bus or train to pass the time.

Ill still be buying it as it will be on my main computer which has constant internet access but i think they have alienated a lot of people from looking around a number of forums.

I will still be buying the game, since I will be using my main computer for the game, which always has internet access.

I understand why people are upset about the whole DRM thing, but I am not going to avoid trying the game out because of it.

My main concern with connecting the game to the "in-game world", is the prices of good could be driven up by people stockpiling resources, and causing a shortage of goods, to gain an easy profil at the expense of other players.
